Drug Awareness Talk to Bridgwater College raises £150

We recently did a talk to Bridgwater College and they kindly donated £150 to the charity. The talk centred around drug awareness with real life experiences from people who have battled addiction…

This is what some of those who attended thought of the talk…thank you for your feedback….and for anyone who is looking at this for their school or college,  we hope this helps

“It was lovely to see that despite such a harrowing experience throughout her life, one of the ladies has still retained her personality and sense of humour. Her massive strength of spirit shone through.”

“This was the third presentation I have been privileged enough to attend. Each time I have felt humbled and impressed by their honesty, courage and strength of character.”

As a tutor, I was truly inspired by the strength and honesty of the guests. I will honestly never forget that session, and will use what I learnt when planning tutorials for other students. It was a privilege to meet people who have faced such huge challenges and overcome them. It was so very powerful. I had a brief chat with the students afterwards and they were all extremely moved by the session.

In 18 years of teaching I have never been to such a powerful, realistic and moving drug awareness session and during the session the whole group are re-living it and discussing the session.

Some of the comments made by students were:

“It made it seem real instead of something that would never happen.”

“It was really sad but they have changed their lives.”

“I am never going to take drugs because I want a happy life.”

“It was a very educational talk and they helped us to learn more about drugs and to understand more about addiction.”

“The people talking were very truthful and honest about their own backgrounds.”

“The people were very brave to speak out and talk to people they don’t know.”

“They kept us well involved in the session.

“It was a very emotional, heartfelt and constructive talk. The people talking were very interactive with us and spoke admirably.”

“They helped me to understand how drugs/alcohol can destroy a life and not to be tempted to get involved with it.”

“They were very professional in the way they spoke and the way they controlled their emotions.”

“Very educational and explained the difference between legal highs and legal drugs”.

“Interesting, and a new way of learning about drugs and it was very effective”.

“Felt very humbled and how it is easy to get into drugs and hard to get out of them and also it was very real”.

“Very interesting and looking at the different drugs was very interesting”.

“Laying their soul on the line, lady only starting to live her life at the age of 42”.

“If they the speakers helped one person, they thought the day was worth doing”.

“Everyone thinks it won’t happen to them but it’s so easy that it can”.

“They have courage to come and speak to us in confidence”.

“Very touching of how they told their story, and shows how very quick it is to get on the drugs”.

“It was very sad. They have told us their stories to try to get people not to take drugs”.

“Interesting and intriguing. How it can affect them and their family and friends. Very personal stories of how people lose everything”.

“People take the drugs to block out everything but then they realise drugs can’t solve the problem”.

We have exciting news!!

Dave and Kyle have returned safely from their epic adventure and we’re so proud to announce they successfully climbed to Everest Base Camp and the in the process, raised a huge amount of money for our charity.

Dave shared what an incredible experience it had been and that whilst gruelling and as you can see from the pictures at times, cold, it was a once in a  lifetime trip and hugely enjoyable and of course, rewarding.

From everyone at Somewhere House Somerset a MASSIVE thank you for all your donations and messages of luck and of course, to Dave and Kyle on this momentous achievement.

Here’s a few photos from the trip:
